25years-SignLASEROPTIK started an "open door" day on September 3.,2009. A lot of visitors came in to congratulate, celebrate and inform themselves about the capabilities of our production. A photo gallery of LO OPEN can be seen here or at menu item "About us > 25th anniversary".
A short article (in german) describes the day and the celebrations at the "Laserhof" in Garbsen.

MgF2 / CaF2

LASEROPTIK stocks a selection of UV- and VUV- substrates for fast delivery.
Our experience in the production of high power laser optics has shown, that only the best materials and polishing techniques result in color center free substrates with highest UV transmission.
The optical quality of the UV substrates is controlled by the following measures:
the surface flatness by Fizeau-Interferometer,
the transmission in the range 120-250nm by a VUV-spectrophotometer and
degradation by irradiation of a sample with 5 Joule at 193nm.

MgF2
is the most resistant fluoride material to degradation by atmospheric moisture, also at higher temperatures. Its hardness, ruggedness and resistance to mechanical and thermal shock is useful for laser windows. MgF2 has a low birefringence, and the windows are fabricated with the optic axis a symmetry axis, minimizing the birefringence effect (c-cut). MgF2 substrates, supplied by LASEROPTIK, are very resistant to F-center formation due to its low O2-contamination, which is also evidenced by the high VUV transmission.

CaF2
has a very broad transmission range from VUV to FIR and is used as window and substrate material. Compared to MgF it has an isotropic structure, lower hardness and is sensitive to thermal shocks.
If the condensation of water vapor is prevented, CaF2 windows can be used for several years in the laboratory.
CaF2 begins to soften at 600 °C, the reaction with atmospheric moisture will take place above this temperature.
